On the Corner: Banu Cennetoğlu’s Global Call for Universal Human Rights
On Thursday, September 17, Kevin Magee will talk about Istanbul cultural worker Banu Cennetoğlu and the universal human rights focus of her current installation, Right? (2022-ongoing) showing this year at Boston’s MassArt Museum Sept. 30 – Feb. 28, 2027 and at Kanal in Brussels Nov. 27, 2026 – May 23, 2027. Kevin will connect Right? to four works featured in Cennetoğlu’s 127-hour video installation, HOWBEIT, showcased at Minneapolis’ Walker Art Center in 2025. Themes to be raised at Shannon Ward’s Sioux Falls Good NAtured, https://goodnaturedsd.com/, include dignity for immigrants, freedom from violence, censorship and surveillance, active mourning, and international solidarity. The evening’s talk and discussion is dedicated to the memory of Renee Good and Alex Pretti of Minneapolis, Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero of Maine, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo of Houston, and all ICE documented and undocumented detainees and deportees.
